Located in southeastern Alberta, Medicine Hat is Canada’s “sunniest city” with more hours of sunshine than anywhere in Canada. Medicine Hat is also referred to as “the oasis on the prairies” for it lush greenery, over 100 city parks and hundreds of trees that line the shore of the South Saskatchewan River Valley that runs through the centre of the city.

The City of Medicine Hat is looking to attract a General Manager of Human Resources to lead an energetic team of HR professionals. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to provide overall strategic direction and leadership to the city’s human resources department.
Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will ensure the proper alignment of HR policies and practices in support of the organizations' mission of "exceeding expectations in the value of our services". Partnering with your customers you will lead in the design, implementation and continuous improvement of HR strategies, programs, and policies at the corporate and business unit level.
You will be responsible for working with the corporate leadership team and partnering with senior managers to understand their unique business needs and anticipate and fulfill their HR requirements. You will be expected to maintain an environment that encourages individual commitment and growth, fosters teamwork, and recognizes the importance of excellent customer relationships.
As the ideal candidate, you will have a degree in human resources management plus a minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience in human resources. Viewed as a big picture thinker and respected for your solutions, negotiations and problem solving skills, you have clear understanding of current and future needs and opportunities relating to human resources and have demonstrated an ability to identify, develop and introduce leading-edge human resource practices in large corporate settings. You are an energetic and dynamic team player with proven leadership and supervisory skills and are known for your excellent communication skills. Your demonstrated commitment to customer service and ability to build and foster positive working relationships with a diverse group of customers is your trademark. A CHRP designation would be considered an asset.
